Sistering Policies
Membership Policy
Sistering's By-Laws state that:
- The Board will determine the application process for membership in the agency.
- Membership will be given to an applicant upon completion of the prescribed form.
- An individual must be a member 45 days before the Annual General Meeting to be eligible to vote at that meeting.
The Membership Policy is:
- that membership be granted upon completion of the Membership Application form;
- that there will be no fee for membership;
- that membership entitles an individual to vote at the Annual General Meeting and to be eligible to volunteer on the Board of Directors and committees of Sistering;
- that all members will be asked to financially support Sistering;
- that groups, corporations, foundations, institutions and government departments not be eligible for membership;
- that memberships are in effect for a period of slightly more than one year -- from 45 days prior to the previous Annual General Meeting to the day after the current Annual General Meeting.
This membership policy intends to:
- reduce financial barriers to membership;
- ensure individuals who wish to become members are treated equally;
- ensure that membership is only given to individuals who make a decision to join Sistering.
This membership policy, amended to reflect the By-law amendement passed at the May 24, 1995 AGM, was approved by the Board September 27, 1995.
