Sistering is a women’s organization that offers practical and emotional support through programs which enable them to take greater control over their lives. Guided by the principles of Anti-Racism/Anti-Oppression, Sistering works to change social conditions which endanger women’s welfare.

 

Statement of Values and Beliefs

In fulfilling our Mission and defining our understanding of feminist principles, we are guided by the following beliefs and values:

We believe

• in the dignity, uniqueness and equality of each woman
• that social and economic inequalities exist that are based on gender, age, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, class, culture, religious and spiritual beliefs, and health status. We believe that the unfair treatment of any woman affects the lives of all women
• that through advocacy we can change the conditions that harm women
• that women are strengthened in an accepting and caring place where basic needs can be met. We try to provide a safe and nonjudgemental environment where confidentiality is respected
• that each woman is capable of making decisions about her life and that by sharing information women can help each other and themselves
• that the needs, interests, and creativity of participants should direct our programs and advocacy efforts
• in being an open and collaborative organization that values the participation and contribution of each woman at Sistering
