Programs & Services
Sistering’s programs and services support homeless, low-income and marginalized women to improve their daily lives and gain greater control over their life circumstances. Our programs and services meet women’s basic needs and offer access to a wide variety of supports that allow women to stabilize their situations and make choices to achieve safety, structure and quality of life.
Coming through Sistering’s Drop In doors in the morning means entering a safe, welcoming space and receiving a hot breakfast after a long night on the streets or in a shelter. Provision of lunch without cost or question, seven days a week, helps women to bridge the gap between inadequate monthly income and Toronto’s high rents and stay housed. Clothing and household donation programs assist women to dress and live with dignity. Case support and housing workers open access to a wide range of services including assistance with their search for housing. Our employment and income support programs offer women the opportunity to supplement their incomes, enhance earning and employment opportunities, and build a sense of accomplishment.
Fostering women’s health and well-being is fundamental to Sistering. Many women come to Sistering struggling with the impacts of trauma and violence – long term or that very day – as well as addictions and mental health issues. Women also suffer health impacts of poverty and life on the street. Senior women often live in isolation created by reduced mobility and language barriers. From blood pressure clinics to counselling to harm reduction, we offer programs and services that improve women’s health and well-being and break social isolation.
